The Shaykh : And in the hadith of Aisha that the author -may Allah have mercy on him- cited: that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
If Allah intends good for a ruler, He makes easy for him a good inner circle that guides him to good and commands him to it, encourages him to it; if he forgets, they remind him, and if he remembers, they assist him. And as for if He intends otherwise for him -meaning He intends evil for him- then He makes easy for him an evil inner circle; if he forgets, they do not remind him, and if he remembers, they do not assist him.
and refuge is sought in Allah, and likewise the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed us:
That Allah did not send a prophet nor appoint a successor except that he had two inner circles: an inner circle of good that commands him to good and encourages him to it, and an inner circle of evil that guides him to evil and commands him to it. He said: And the one who is protected is the one whom Allah protects.
: This is something observed; you find that some rulers are righteous in themselves and eager for good, but Allah appoints for them bad companions, and refuge is sought in Allah, who deter them from the good they intend, and make evil attractive to them, and they slander the servants of Allah to them. And you find some rulers who are not righteous in themselves, but they have a good inner circle that guides them to good and encourages them to it, and guides them to what necessitates love between them and their subjects, until they become upright and their condition is rectified, and the one who is protected is the one whom Allah protects.
And if this is the case with rulers, then examine yourself; you, with yourself, if you see that your companions guide you to good and assist you in it, and if you forget they remind you, and if you are ignorant they teach you, then hold fast to their path and bite down on it with your molars. And if you see among your companions one who is negligent and does not care whether you perish or remain, and perhaps even strives for your destruction, then beware of him, for he is pure poison, and refuge is sought in Allah. Do not approach these people; stay far from them; flee from them as you would flee from a lion. The successful person is not one who is dull like a stone, but rather one who is sharp like glass: hard, yet what is behind it is seen through its clarity. So he has strength and firmness, but also a transparent softness, such that he sees as if he sees by the unseen, and knows what benefits him and what harms him, so he strives for what benefits him and avoids what harms him. And we ask Allah for success for us and for you.
