The benefits of the hadith of Anas, may Allah be pleased with him, who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) came upon me while I was playing with the boys, so he greeted us

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : In this hadith, there are benefits:
First: The good character of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and his great humility. Despite his high status and his position and honor with Allah and with His creation, he humbles himself to the point of greeting the children while they are playing in the market. Who among us does that, except by the will of Allah?!
Second: Among the benefits of this hadith is that it is prescribed for a person to greet those he passes by, even if they are children. This is because the greeting is a supplication you make for your brother, saying "Peace be upon you," and its response is a supplication for you, saying "And upon you be peace." Also, when you greet the children, you accustom them to good upbringing so that they grow up with it and live by it. You will have a reward in everything they imitate you in; whatever good thing a person imitates you in, you have a reward in it.
Another benefit of this hadith is the permissibility of sending a boy on an errand, but on the condition that he is trustworthy in it. As for if he is not trustworthy, such as a boy who plays a lot and does not care about errands, then do not rely on him.
Among its benefits is what the jurists (may Allah have mercy on them) mentioned: "If a boy comes to you with an errand and says, 'This is from my father,' or 'This is from my mother,' or something similar, then you may accept it, even if he himself cannot donate anything from his own wealth". But if he comes to you as a messenger and says, 'This is from my father,' for example, he brings you dates, or watermelon, or a garment, or whatever it is, if he brings it to you, accept it and do not say, 'This is a boy, he might have stolen it' or the like, by taking the apparent reality.
Another benefit of this hadith is considering the mother and the family. If a person wants to fulfill an errand and fears that it will delay them, he should inform them if the errand is not delayed by doing so. That is, if you leave your family, you should say, 'I am going to such-and-such a place,' so that they are reassured and their minds are not preoccupied. A person does not know; perhaps he goes to such-and-such a place and is struck by an accident, illness, or something else. If it is not known, his situation remains uncertain for his family. You should, if you want to go to something unusual, as for the usual things like going out to the mosque and the like, there is no harm in it. But if you want to go out to something unusual, for example, suppose you want to go to a town near your town, say, 'Today I am going to such-and-such a place.' Or if you want to go out for a walk, say, 'I will go out for a walk today,' inform them so that they are reassured.
Another benefit of this hadith is that it is not permissible for a person to reveal a person's secret, even to his mother and father. If a person sends you on an errand and then your father says, 'What did he send you for?' do not tell him, even if he is your father. Or if your mother says, 'What did he send you for?' do not tell her, even if she is your mother, because this is among the secrets of people, and it is not permissible to reveal them to anyone.
Among its benefits is the good upbringing of Umm Sulaym for her son, where she said: "Do not tell anyone the secret of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family)". She said this to him even though he had not told her and would not tell anyone else, to support him and strengthen him and to establish an excuse for him, because he refused to tell her because it was the secret of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). So she said: "Do not tell anyone about it": as if she is saying, 'I agree with you on this, so hold fast to it.'
Among its benefits is the display of Anas's love for Thabit al-Bunani (may Allah have mercy on him), because he was constantly with him. For this reason, you find that he narrates a lot from him. He said to him: "If I were to tell anyone about it, I would have told you". This indicates the love between Anas and his student Thabit. Likewise, affection should be mutual between students and their teacher. Because if there is no affection between the student and the teacher, the student will not accept everything his teacher says, and the teacher will not be inclined to teach his student and will not care about him much. If affection becomes mutual between them, much good will result from this. And Allah is the One who grants success.
