About a thousand men went out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), approximately one-third of whom were hypocrites.

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : About a thousand men went out with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), approximately one-third of whom were hypocrites. When they were on the road between Madinah and Uhud, the hypocrites turned back because they had not gone out for the sake of Allah. They returned and said:
If we had known [there would be] fighting, we would have followed you لو نعلم قتالا لاتبعناكم
[Ali 'Imran 3:167]
. Allah the Exalted said:
They were nearer to disbelief that day than to faith هم للكفر يومئذ أقرب منهم للإيمان
[Ali 'Imran 3:167]
.
The conclusion is that a Muslim should, if Allah grants him the ability to perform an act of worship from among the specific acts of worship, such as prayer, or acts that benefit others, such as seeking knowledge, not be lazy and not delay, but rather continue. For this is part of the guidance of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and his instruction:
"Do not be like so-and-so O 'Abdullah! He used to pray during the night, then stopped the practice." يا عبد الله، لا تكن مثل فلان، كان يقوم الليل فترك قيام الليل
Riyad as-Salihin 1163
. And success is from Allah.
