What is the ruling on wearing the trousers that are widespread among Muslims?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling on wearing trousers?

Answer:
If they involve imitating the disbelievers, it is not permissible. If they are of the clothing of the disbelievers, as is well known, they are not to be worn.
However, if the people of a country have agreed upon trousers specific to Muslims that do not resemble the trousers of the disbelievers, there is nothing wrong with it, provided that the trousers cover the private parts, no private part is visible from them, and they do not imitate the disbelievers in another manner; there is nothing wrong with it.
Q: If it becomes a custom for Muslims?
The Shaykh: If the clothing of Muslims is common and there is no imitation, there is nothing wrong with it. Imitation is only when one wears clothing different from that of his community. But if it is the clothing of the people of a country, and it happens that they resemble some of the polytheists, it does no harm, as long as it is their clothing and they did not intend to imitate them.
