Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The saying of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):
Convey from me, even if it be an Ayahبلغوا عني ولو آية
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2669Sahih (Darussalam)
Is this specific to the student of knowledge?

Answer:
No, it includes others as well. Every believer who is able should convey, even if it is only one verse, whether he is a student of knowledge or any other believer.
Q: Some people understand that
Convey from me, even if it be an Ayahبلغوا عني ولو آية
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2669Sahih (Darussalam)
is to be taken at face value, so they go out to the villages and countries to call people to Allah, and then they get involved in major legal rulings, which may lead them into difficulty?
The Shaykh: If he teaches people the Qur'an, and he goes out to teach the Qur'an, there is no blame on him. But it is not permissible for him to enter into what does not concern him. It is not permissible for him to speak about knowledge when he does not have insight. However, he can teach them the Qur'an, teach them Surat al-Fatihah, and teach them the last ten surahs (al-Mufassal). May Allah reward him with good for teaching them. Teaching the Qur'an is easy, even if he does not have scholarly knowledge. He teaches them the Qur'an. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The best among you is he who learns and teaches the Qur'an.خيركم من تعلم القرآن وعلمه
Sunan Abi Dawud 1452Sahih (Al-Albani)
.
We learned from people who did not know anything of knowledge, but we took the Qur'an from them when we were young. There is good in them and a blessing from Allah, may Allah forgive them. They were patient in teaching and patient in guiding the students, even if they did not have scholarly knowledge. But they had patience in teaching people the Qur'an, they would visit them repeatedly, and they would explain it to them until they memorized it. This is a lawful act. Uthman (may Allah be pleased with him) said about the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The best among you is he who learns and teaches the Qur'an.خيركم من تعلم القرآن وعلمه
Sunan Abi Dawud 1452Sahih (Al-Albani)
Convey from me, even if it be an Ayahبلغوا عني ولو آية
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2669Sahih (Darussalam)
.
Q: The "verse" here: does it mean wisdom, or a verse of the Qur'an?
The Shaykh: Verses of the Qur'an.
