Prohibition of Returning a Gift or Buying It Back

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: I gave my nephew some of my camels, and then I bought them back from him?

Answer: You must not return to it, even by paying the price; for it is established from 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) that he asked the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) about that, and he said to him (peace and blessings be upon him):
Do not return to your charity, even if he gives it back to you for a dirhamلا تعد في صدقتك، ولو أعطاكه بدرهم
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
One who gets back his gift is like a dog which vomits and then swallows that vomit.العائد في هبته كالكلب، يقيئ، ثم يعود في قيئه
Sahih Muslim 1622g
, and he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It is not permissible for a man to give a gift then take it back, except what a father gives to his child.لا يحل للرجل أن يعطي العطية ثم يرجع فيها، إلا الوالد فيما يعطي ولده
Sunan Ibn Majah 2377Sahih (Darussalam)
, so these hadiths and what came in their meaning indicate the prohibition of returning a charity or a gift, even by paying the price. May Allah grant us and you and all Muslims success in beneficial knowledge and acting upon it; He is the All-Hearing, the Near. And peace be upon you and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.
