One who enters with a daughter and does not find her to be a virgin

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: If a man marries a daughter and, after consummating the marriage, he does not find her to be a virgin, what should he do?

Answer: This has various causes. The virginity may have been lost for reasons other than fornication. If her outward appearance is one of goodness and upright conduct, he should have a good opinion of her in this matter. Or, she may have committed a grave sin, then repented and expressed remorse, and goodness became apparent in her; that does not harm him.
The virginity may also have been lost due to severe menstruation, for the scholars have stated that a severe menstrual period can remove the hymen. The hymen may also be lost through certain jumps, if one jumps from one place to another, or descends from a high place to a low place with force, which may cause the hymen to be lost. Therefore, it is not a necessary condition of virginity that its loss be due to fornication. No.
If she claims that her virginity was lost in a matter other than a grave sin, there is no blame on him. Or, if it was due to a grave sin, but she told him that she was coerced and forced, this also does not harm him, provided that a menstrual period has passed since the incident, or if she stated that she repented and expressed remorse, and that she did this during a time of her folly and ignorance, then repented and expressed remorse, it does not harm him.
It is not permissible to spread this matter; rather, he should cover her up. If he is convinced of her truthfulness and upright conduct, he should keep her. Otherwise, he should divorce her while maintaining confidentiality and not revealing what would cause fitnah (trial, discord or temptation) and evil.
