Oath of disavowal from Islam

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
The questioner, T. A., asks: A dispute arose between me and my wife, and in a fit of anger over the problems between us—which were caused by our inability to have children—I said to her, while fully in control of my mental faculties: “I am disavowing the religion of Islam unless I marry you.” After that, our relationship improved, she became pregnant, and I renounced the marriage. What is the expiation for this oath?

Answer:
This is a reprehensible statement that is not permissible for a Muslim to swear by, nor to utter. He must repent to Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) for this, and sincere repentance wipes out what came before it. He owes no expiation.
