What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding bribery?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the ruling of the Shari'ah regarding bribery?

Answer:
Bribery is forbidden by explicit text and scholarly consensus. It is what is offered to a judge or others to incline them away from the truth and to rule in favor of the one who offers it in accordance with their desires. It is authentically reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he cursed the one who offers a bribe and the one who accepts it. It is also reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he cursed the one who acts as an intermediary between them, who is the go-between. There is no doubt that he is sinful and deserving of blame, censure, and punishment because he is assisting in sin and transgression. And Allah the Exalted said:
And cooperate in righteousness and piety, but do not cooperate in sin and aggression. And fear Allah; indeed, Allah is severe in penalty.
[Al-Ma'idah: 2].
