The Importance of Combining Knowledge and Da'wah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
It is observed that some students prioritize the aspect of knowledge over the aspect of calling people to Allah. We ask for guidance for the brothers in this matter?
Answer:
The student of knowledge combines both matters: knowledge and da'wah, and action and reform among people and advice. He does not stop at a limit, but according to his capacity, in a way that does not occupy him from the obligatory. So he is a student of knowledge, and a caller to Allah, and an advisor, and a teacher as well, and a reformer among people, and he has beneficial effects.
The student of knowledge—especially the student in the College of Shari'ah, or the College of Principles of Religion, or in the circles of the shaykhs—must have high ambition. He should not limit himself to one thing while neglecting another, but he should strive in every good according to his knowledge and capacity. So he is with the reformers, and with the callers, and with the teachers, and with the advisors, and with those who enjoin good and forbid evil.
And so were the Companions and those who followed them in excellence. They entered into everything that benefits people, and they did not lag behind anything that contains good for people, even in matters related to other worldly affairs; such as medicine and engineering and other things that benefit people—if they can have a share in them, according to their capacity and knowledge. So what is less important does not occupy him from what is more important, but he starts with the most important, then the next most important, according to his capacity, with sincerity of intention and patience. And Allah is the guarantor of success.
