The Importance of Calling to Allah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
A student of knowledge should call to Allah the Exalted with his knowledge; indeed, it is obligatory for him to call to Allah the Exalted with his knowledge, because when Allah the Exalted teaches you knowledge, He has taken a covenant from you to explain it and call to Allah with it.Allah the Exalted said: [Al-Imran: 187], and a man who does not call people with his knowledge is worse than a book, because a book may benefit people in the future, whereas one who does not call is a useless stone. It is obligatory for everyone to whom Allah has granted knowledge to convey it, based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him): “Convey from me, even if it is a single verse.” Do not say, “I have not reached the level of independent legal reasoning.” As soon as you know an issue and are certain of it, teach it to the people and convey it to them. Do not belittle yourself, for if you teach one person and he benefits, and he teaches another and he benefits, you will receive a reward like theirs. The one who guides to good is like the one who does it.
However, in this case, one must verify the knowledge; because some people call while they think they are scholars, but they are not. It is obligatory to verify, either from a scholar you trust, or if you have the ability to understand issues from the books, then do so. A student of knowledge should strive to spread his knowledge in every opportunity: in gatherings, in communities, in newspapers and magazines, in pamphlets and letters. The important thing is that he spreads his knowledge as much as he can; because if he does so, he will earn much good, and his good will be better than the good of the merchant who spends money day and night for those who benefit from it. Knowledge has no cost in its spreading and explanation, and it does not decrease when given, but rather increases, as it was said about knowledge:
It increases with much spending from it, and decreases if you withhold it.
And [mention, O Muhammad], when Allah took a covenant from those who were given the Scripture, [saying], "You must make it clear to the people and not conceal it."
وَإِذْ أَخَذَ اللَّهُ مِيثَاقَ الَّذِينَ أُوتُوا الْكِتَابَ لَتُبَيِّنُنَّهُ لِلنَّاسِ وَلا تَكْتُمُونَهُHowever, in this case, one must verify the knowledge; because some people call while they think they are scholars, but they are not.
