A Question on Tasbih

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I read in a book that whoever recites "Subhanak Allahumma wa bihamdika, Subhanak Allahumma al-Azim" (Glory be to You, O Allah, and praise be to You; Glory be to You, O Allah, the Magnificent) one hundred times, Allah will forgive his sins even if they are like the foam of the sea. Is this correct?

Answer:
Something close to this is found in authentic hadiths. The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever says in the morning and in the evening "Subhan Allah wa bihamdih" (Glory be to Allah and His praise) one hundred times, his sins will be forgiven even if they are like the foam of the sea.
Tasbih, tahlil, tahmid, and takbir are among the means of wiping away sins.
And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The dearest phrases to Allah are four: Subhan Allah (Hallowed be Allah), Al-Hamdulillah (Praise be to Allah), La ilaha illa-Allah (There is no deity but Allah), Allahu Akbar (Allah is Greater).
Sahih Muslim 2137a
.
He (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
SubhanAllah, wal-hamdulilah, wa la illaha ill-Allah, wa Allahu Akbar, wa la hawla wa la quwwata illa Billahil-aliy al-azim (Glory be to Allah, praise be to Allah, there is none worthy of worship except Allah, Allah is Most Great, and there is no power and no strength except with Allah the Exalted and Magnificent
Sunan an-Nasa'i 924Hasan (Darussalam)
.
Therefore, every believing man and woman should make much of tasbih, tahmid, tahlil, and takbir, and saying "La hawla wa la quwwata illa billah" (There is no power nor strength except with Allah). In that lies great good, and it is among the means of expiating sins, wiping away evil deeds, and multiplying good deeds. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Whoever glorifies Allah (by saying Subhan-Allah) after every Salat (prayer) thirty-three times, and praises Allah (by saying Alhamdu-lillah) thirty-three times, and exalts Allah (by saying Allahu Akbar) thirty-three times, those are ninety-nine in all, and says to complete a hundred: La ilaha ill-Allahu, wahdahu la sharika lahu, lahul-mulku wa lahulhamdu, wa Huwa 'ala kulli shai'in Qadir (There is nothing which deserves to be worshipped except Allah Alone Who has no partner; to Him belongs the kingdom, to Him praise is due, and He has power over everything), his sins will be forgiven, even if they are as abundant as the foam of the sea.
Bulugh al-Maram 2:217
, so this is a great favor.
It is recommended for every believing man and woman, after every obligatory prayer of the five daily prayers, after the taslim and the aforementioned dhikr, to say: "Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, Allahu Akbar" (Glory be to Allah, Praise be to Allah, Allah is the Greatest) thirty-three times each, and then to complete the hundred by saying: "La ilaha illa Allah wahdahu la sharika lah, lah al-mulk wa lah al-hamd wa huwa 'ala kulli shay'in qadir" (There is no god but Allah alone, having no partner; His is the dominion and His is the praise, and He is over all things competent); based on the aforementioned hadith, and other authentic hadiths from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this. And if one says: "Subhan Allah, Alhamdulillah, La ilaha illa Allah, Allahu Akbar" twenty-five times after each prayer at times, that is sufficient; because both are sunnah (recommended practice). If one does this or that, it is all good.
It should be known that the expiation of evil deeds by these dhikr and others is conditional upon avoiding major sins and not persisting in sins; due to the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
If you avoid the major sins which you are forbidden, We will remove from you your lesser sins and admit you to a noble entrance [into Paradise].
[Al-Nisa: 31] and His saying (Glorified and Exalted is He):
And those who, when they commit an immorality or wrong themselves [by transgression], remember Allah and seek forgiveness for their sins - and who can forgive sins except Allah? - and [who] do not persist in what they have done while they know.
[Ali 'Imran 3:135]
"Those are the ones whose reward is forgiveness from their Lord and Gardens beneath which rivers flow, in which they will abide forever, and excellent is the reward of the workers" [Al-Imran: 135-136] and the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The five [daily] prayers, Friday to Friday and Ramadan to Ramadan make atonement for what has happened since the previous one when major sins have been avoided.
Mishkat al-Masabih 564
And success is from Allah.
