Question:
What is the authenticity of the hadith:
Whoever does not perform tawaf on the day of Eid before nightfall returns to the state of ihramمن لم يطف يوم العيد قبل أن يمسي عاد محرمًا
?

Answer:
This is not authentic. If one has stoned the pillars and shaved or shortened his hair, he has exited the state of ihram even if he did not perform tawaf that day. As for this hadith: “He returns to the state of ihram as he was,” it is a weak hadith that contradicts the authentic hadiths, and in its chain is Abu Ubaydah ibn Abdullah ibn Rabi'ah, who is not relied upon as a source of evidence.
