How to Deal with Relatives Who Are Rafidah
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
A man whose parents are Rafidah; how should he deal with them?
Answer:
He should call them to Allah and advise them, and disavow them if he knows they are upon falsehood, but he should fear Allah in his treatment of them, as Allah (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: [Luqman: 15], meaning he should be kind to them, advise them, call them to Allah, and ask Allah to guide them, so he does not be harsh with them; because they are his parents and they have a great right with Allah. This applies even if they were disbelievers, Jews or Christians, and he had become a Muslim; he would call them to Allah and not be harsh with them, as He (Exalted and Majestic is He) said: [Luqman 31:15]; because the treatment of parents is not like the treatment of other people.

But if they endeavor to make you associate with Me that of which you have no knowledge, do not obey them but accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness
وَإِنْ جَاهَدَاكَ عَلى أَنْ تُشْرِكَ بِي مَا لَيْسَ لَكَ بِهِ عِلْمٌ فَلَا تُطِعْهُمَا وَصَاحِبْهُمَا فِي الدُّنْيَا مَعْرُوفًاbut accompany them in [this] world with appropriate kindness
