The occurrence of shirk al-rububiyyah (associating partners with Allah in lordship) in this Ummah (Muslim community)

The Shaykh: But the truth, and I say the truth, is that due to the interpretations (ta'wil) that have entered among the Muslims, some or many Muslims fall into shirk al-rububiyyah (associating partners with Allah in lordship) without realizing it, because some of the interpreters of their deeds have made their evil deeds seem attractive to them. These are the ones who come to the dead and the righteous and call out to them other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic). If you ask them, "Do they hear you or cause harm?" The first polytheists would not have said what these later polytheists say. The first polytheists did not say that they hear or cause harm. But some of the interpreting sheikhs today interpret the deeds of the ignorant by saying that these awliya (close friends of Allah) and righteous people hear, and they build upon this the very dangerous conclusion that since they hear, they intercede between the one who calls for aid from them other than Allah (Mighty and Majestic) and their Lord (Blessed and Exalted is He). They believe that the righteous person or the wali (close friend of Allah), let alone the Prophet, once his soul leaves his body and he is buried in his grave, his soul departs and he acquires powers and capabilities that he did not have in his state of life. With such beliefs for which Allah has not sent down any authority, they interpret the calling for aid (istighathah) of these people to the dead and the righteous among the servants of Allah (Mighty and Majestic).
Therefore, the matter is very dangerous in our reality today, where shirk in lordship has occurred, let alone what is below that which we will explain and clarify. Then the danger is greater that this shirk is committed in the name of tawassul (seeking nearness to Allah through a means) and in the name of shafa'ah (intercession), as the former ones said. Rather, they said as the former ones said: "These are our intercessors with Allah (Mighty and Majestic)." Therefore, we must be cautious that any of us, or among us Muslims, whether near or far from us, becomes entangled in this. Islam has rights that some people have over others, and that is advice, so that none of us falls into any of this shirk. Because if shirk is the greatest of major sins, and if shirk is divided into these sections we mentioned—shirk of lordship, shirk of worship, and shirk of attributes—then shirk of lordship among these three types is the greatest shirk in this world. Therefore, we must be cautious and we must purify the tawhid al-rububiyyah (oneness of lordship) for Allah (Mighty and Majestic). So we say and believe that no one benefits or harms in reality and truth except Allah (Mighty and Majestic). And this does not mean that we deny the causes that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) has prescribed, which He made beneficial or harmful. This is not a part of shirk at all, but this is affirming the causes that Allah (Mighty and Majestic) made either cosmic or natural causes, or legislative causes.
