Explaining that voluntary prayer in the home is better

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
If a person is in al-Madinah al-Munawwarah and prays in al-Masjid al-Nabawi, is it better for him to pray voluntary prayers in his home or in the mosque?

Answer:
It is better for him to pray voluntary prayers in his home; because of the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The most excellent prayer of a person is (that which he prays) in his house except that which is prescribed (the five congregational prayers).أفضل صلاة المرء في بيته إلا المكتوبة
Bulugh al-Maram 2:313
, which is agreed upon as authentic, except if the voluntary prayer is of a type for which congregation is prescribed, such as standing in night prayer in Ramadan and the prayer for rain. In that case, the first is prayed in the mosque, and the second is prayed in the open desert in congregation, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did, and as the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) did after him.
