Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
What is the meaning of this hadith:
Indeed Islam began as something strange and it will return to being strange as it began. So Tuba is for the strangers.بدأ الإسلام غريبًا وسيعود غريبًا كما بدأ فطوبى للغرباء
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2629Sahih (Darussalam)
?

Answer:
Its meaning is that Islam began as a stranger, just as was the case in Makkah and Madinah at the beginning of the Hijrah, when few knew it or practiced it. Then it spread, and people entered it in large numbers, and it became manifest over all other religions. It will return as a stranger at the end of time, just as it began, when few people will know it with true knowledge, and few people will practice it in the prescribed manner, and they are the strangers.
The completion of the hadith is his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
So blessed are the strangersفطوبى للغرباء
It was narrated by Muslim in his Sahih, and in a narration other than Muslim’s, it was said: “O Messenger of Allah, who are the strangers?” He said:
Those who reform when people have corruptedالذين يصلحون إذا فسد الناس
.
In another wording:
they will set right the corruptions caused in my sunna by people after my deathهم الذين يصلحون ما أفسد الناس من سنتي
Mishkat al-Masabih 170Isnād Da'īf Jiddan (Zubair `Aliza'i)
.
We ask Allah to make us and all our Muslim brothers among them, for He is the best of those asked.
