The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
All praise is due to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted in the context of the hadiths in the book of the Etiquette of Food: "From Hudhayfah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: 'When we were in the presence of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) with food, we did not place our hands [to eat] until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) began to place his hand. Once, when we were with him and food was present, a girl came, as if she was being pushed, and she went to place her hand in the food. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) took her hand. Then a Bedouin man came, as if he was being pushed, and [the Prophet] took his hand. The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:Riyad as-Salihin 730 Then he mentioned the name of Allah the Exalted and ate. Muslim narrated it.'"

Al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in *Riyad al-Salihin*, in the chapter on the Etiquette of Food, regarding what he transmitted from Hudhayfah ibn al-Yaman (may Allah be pleased with him): "When we were with the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) at food, we did not place our hands in it until the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) placed his hand". This was due to their perfect respect for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family); they did not place their hands in the food until he placed his hand. One day, food was brought to the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him). When they began [to eat] or when it was served to them, a girl—meaning a small child—came, as if she was being pushed, meaning as if she was running. She wanted to place her hand in the food without mentioning the name [of Allah], so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) held her hand. Then a Bedouin man came, likewise, as if he was being pushed, and he came to place his hand in the food, so the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held his hand. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed [them] that this Bedouin man and this girl were brought by Satan in order to make the food permissible through them if they ate without mentioning the name. They may have been excused due to their ignorance, the girl because of her youth and the man because he was a Bedouin, but Satan came with them so that if they ate without mentioning the name, he would share in the food. Then the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) swore that Satan's hand was in their hands, in the hand of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him).

Satan considers that food lawful for himself on which the Name of Allah is not mentioned. He (Satan) brought this girl to make the food lawful through her but I caught her hand. Then he brought the bedouin to make it lawful through him but I caught his hand too. By Him in Whose Hand my soul is, now Satan's hand is in my grasp along with their hands.
