The Shaykh : This hadith indicates several benefits, among which are: the respect of the Companions for the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) and their etiquette with him; and that it is recommended that if there is an elder present at the food, no one should precede him in eating, meaning they make the elder the one who eats first, because taking precedence before an elder is inappropriate and lacks etiquette; and that Satan commands, encourages, and restrains a person from doing what is not befitting. It has come in the Noble Qur'an: [Al-Baqarah 2:268] And He the Exalted said: [An-Nur 24:21] This indicates that Satan has authority over the children of Adam, and the one who is protected is the one whom Allah protects. Also, if a person comes during the meal, he should say the Basmalah; he should not say, "The ones before me have already said it." He should say it. However, if they all began the meal together, is the Basmalah of one person sufficient? If the one person said it secretly, his Basmalah is not sufficient because the others did not hear it. If he said it aloud and intended it for everyone, it may be said that it is sufficient, and it may be said that the best is for every person to say the Basmalah for himself, and this is more complete and better. Among the benefits of this hadith is that Satan has a hand, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) held his hand. Also, it is a sign of the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), where Allah the Exalted informed him of what happened in this incident, that Satan pushed the Bedouin man and the girl, and that he held their hands, the hands of the three, with his noble hand, may the prayers and peace of Allah be upon him. Also, if someone comes wanting to eat and did not hear the Basmalah, he holds his hand; he holds his hand until he says the Basmalah, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) held their hands and did not say, "Say the Basmalah." He held their hands so that it would be a reminder for them to remember this incident and not forget the Basmalah in the future. Among the benefits of this hadith is the confirmation of the Basmalah when eating, and the correct view is that the Basmalah when eating is obligatory, and that if a person does not say it, he is a sinner against Allah Mighty and Majestic and is pleased to have his most bitter enemy, who is Satan, participate in his food. Therefore, the Basmalah is obligatory. If you forget the Basmalah at the beginning and remember it in the middle, say "Bismillah first and last." And success is from Allah.
