Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad and upon his family and all his Companions. He (may Allah have mercy on him) said: "The chapter on what one should say when invited to a meal and another follows him. Abu Mas'ud al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) said: A man invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to a meal he had prepared for him as the fifth of five. A man followed them, and when he reached the door, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said to him:Riyad as-Salihin 738 He said: No, I grant him permission, O Messenger of Allah. Agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim".

Al-Hafiz al-Nawawi (may Allah have mercy on him) said in his book *Riyad al-Salihin*, in the book on the etiquette of food: "The chapter on what one should say when invited to a meal and another follows him." Then he mentioned the hadith of Abu Mas'ud al-Badri (may Allah be pleased with him) that a man invited the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) to a meal as the fifth of five, meaning he specified the number as five. A man followed them, making them six. When the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) reached the host's house, he asked permission for the sixth man to enter or not, and the host of the house granted him permission.
