If a person suffers a calamity, is it permissible for him to take money from an insurance company?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : The important point is that this company takes in millions in such a situation in order to pay out a thousand or two thousand, or a little more than that.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : Therefore, it is not permissible for one who has suffered such a calamity to take from the company; rather, he takes from the wrongdoer, whether the act was accidental or intentional. This is another matter. As for whether he can or cannot [collect], as I told you, that is a separate issue. He should use his head. This does not make it permissible for the one who has suffered this harm to take this money, because it is forbidden.

The questioner: Yes.

The Shaykh : This is the answer.

The questioner: May Allah reward you with all good.

The Shaykh : And may Allah protect you, if Allah wills.

The questioner: Peace be upon you.

The Shaykh: And upon you peace.
