Does the supplication for the expiation of the gathering negate backbiting?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : Shaykh, may Allah bless you, does this commotion include backbiting and talebearing?

The Shaykh : This commotion does not include backbiting, because backbiting is a right of a human being. However, it may benefit the person in his relationship with Allah. As for the one who was backbitten, it is obligatory for him to seek forgiveness from him. He should say to him, for example, "I said such and such about you, so forgive me." This is if the person became aware of it. If he did not become aware of it, then you seek forgiveness for him and speak well of him in the place where you backbitten him, and Allah will expiate that for you.
