The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
He said -may Allah have mercy on him-: "The chapter on the recommendation of lying down on one's right side after the two rak'ahs of Fajr, and the exhortation to do so, whether one has performed Tahajjud at night or not:
Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) said:
that when the Prophet prayed the two rak'as of the dawn prayer he lay down on his right side
Mishkat al-Masabih 1190
Al-Bukhari narrated it.
And from her (may Allah be pleased with her) she said:
'Aishah (May Allah be pleased with her) reported: When the Prophet (ﷺ) finished the 'Isha prayer, he would perform eleven Rak'ah before the Fajr prayer, concluding each two Rak'ah with Taslim (i.e., saying As-Salamu 'Alaikum) and observing the Witr (odd) at the end. When the Mu'adhdhin finished proclaiming Adhan for the Fajr prayer and it was dawn, he would rise and perform two short Rak'ah, and then would lie down on his right side till the Mu'adhdhin came to (inform) him about Iqamah. [Muslim] .
Riyad as-Salihin 1111
Muslim narrated it.
And from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him) he said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
When one of you prays the two Rak'ah of Fajr then let him lay down on his right (side).
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 420Da'if (Darussalam)
Abu Dawud and al-Tirmidhi narrated it with authentic chains. Al-Tirmidhi said: The hadith is hasan and sahih"
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
It has been mentioned to us previously that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to pray the two rak'ahs of Fajr, and it has been mentioned that these two rak'ahs are distinguished from the other rawatib by characteristics that were previously mentioned. One of their characteristics is that when he prayed these two rak'ahs, he would lie down on his right side, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to do. This was established from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her) in *al-Sahihayn*:
That he used to lie down on his right side after praying the Fajr Sunnah.
.
And in Aisha's second hadith, which Muslim narrated:
That he (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) used to say the taslim, praying eleven rak'ahs and saying the taslim from every two rak'ahs.
: In this is evidence against the error of those who imagined that if he prays eleven rak'ahs, he prays four all together, then four all together, then three all together, based on her hadith (may Allah be pleased with her) in which she said:
The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) did not exceed eleven rak'ahs in Ramadan or otherwise. He would pray four, so do not ask about their beauty and length, then he would pray four, then he would pray four, so do not ask about their beauty and length, then he would pray three.
: So some people thought that he prays four all together, then four all together, then three. This is an error taken from the apparent meaning of the hadith. This should be understood as him praying four in two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, then resting, then praying four in two rak'ahs, then two rak'ahs, then resting, then praying three. It must be understood this way, because the narrator from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this is one person, namely Aisha, and the action is one, so some of it must be understood in light of the rest so that the Sunnah agrees.
It cannot be said: He does this once and that once, because the word "kana" (was) usually indicates the continuity of the action.
As for Abu Hurayrah's hadith regarding the command of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
Whoever prays the two rak'ahs of Fajr should lie down on his right side.
: Although al-Tirmidhi and Abu Dawud narrated it and the author said: "It is with authentic chains", Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah, the scholar of the Ummah and the ocean of rational and transmitted sciences, said: "This hadith is munkar, and the command for it from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) is not authentic": meaning lying down after the two prostrations, after the two rak'ahs of the Fajr Sunnah. What the Shaykh said is the correct view: that the hadith is munkar and has no value, meaning that the Messenger did not command that a man lie down on his right side when he prays the Fajr Sunnah.
And the author's statement -may Allah have mercy on him- in the title that there is no difference between the one who performs Tahajjud and the one who does not: is a reference to a disagreement on this matter. Some scholars said: It is recommended to lie down after the two rak'ahs of Fajr absolutely. Some said: It is not recommended absolutely. And some said: With detail: If he has Tahajjud, it is recommended for him to lie down after them for rest after the fatigue, and if he does not have Tahajjud, he does not lie down.
And one of the most amazing and strangest opinions is that some scholars said: Lying down after the Fajr Sunnah is a condition for the validity of the Fajr prayer, and whoever does not lie down, his prayer is invalid. This is among the strange matters of knowledge, the strange opinions. What is the connection between this lying down and the prayer? Lying down is separate from the prayer and has no relation to it. But we mentioned it so that you may be amazed at the opinions of some scholars -may Allah have mercy on them- that they say things that neither reason nor transmission indicates.
And the correct view is what Shaykh al-Islam said: "If a person is tired from his Tahajjud, he rests, lying down on his right side, and this is on the condition that he does not fear that sleep will overcome him and he will miss the prayer. If he fears that, he does not lie down at all".
