Explanation of the Book of the Adhan-02b

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The reciter: Abu al-Yaman narrated to us, saying: Shu'ayb informed us from al-Zuhri, saying: 'Urwah ibn al-Zubayr informed me that 'A'ishah said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), when the mu'adhdhin finished the first call for the Fajr prayer, would stand up and perform two light rak'ahs before the Fajr prayer, after the dawn had become clear, then he would lie down on his right side until the mu'adhdhin came to him for the iqamah.

The Shaykh : The point of this heading is his statement: "until the mu'adhdhin came to him for the iqamah," for the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) would remain in his house waiting for the iqamah. And in her statement: "when the mu'adhdhin finished the first call for the Fajr prayer," there is evidence of the error of those who assumed that the phrase "prayer is better than sleep" in the first call for the Fajr prayer refers to the call made at the end of the night. Indeed, this is a false statement that is not indicated by the hadith or the Sunnah. Rather, the first call intended is the one that occurs after the dawn has risen, and the second call is the iqamah, due to his statement:
Between every two calls (to prayer) there is a Salat بين كل أذانين صلاة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 185Sahih (Darussalam)
And this is indicated by the fact that he said: "when you call the first call for the Fajr prayer," for the call for the Fajr prayer does not occur except after the time has entered, due to his statement:
when the time for prayer comes, one amongst you should announce Adhan إذا حضرت الصلاة فليؤذن لكم أحدكم
Sahih Muslim 674a
This is something to which one should pay attention: if a person understands from the texts something that contradicts what people are doing, he should not rush. Let him be deliberate and research with the scholars of the time, for people rarely continue to act in a way that is not generally the prescribed practice. And we say that the general practice is not always the case. So if you understand from the texts something that people have not understood, do not rush to issue a fatwa. Wait and research, and if the truth becomes clear, it is obligatory to clarify it.
