What is the ruling on drinking while standing, and are there any hadiths regarding this? And when drinking Zamzam water, is it necessary to sit?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The questioner : What is the ruling on drinking while standing? And are there any hadiths regarding this? And when drinking Zamzam water, is it necessary to sit?

The Shaykh : Drinking while sitting is undoubtedly better; in fact, drinking while standing is disliked except out of necessity. The evidence for this is:
That the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade a man from drinking while standing. أن النبي صلى الله عليه وعلى آله وسلم نهى أن يشرب الرجل قائماً
.
However, if there is a necessity, such as the water source being elevated, as is the case with some coolers that are high up and a person cannot drink from them while sitting, then he stands out of necessity. This is because it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
That he drank from a suspended water skin. أنه شرب من شنٍ معلق
, meaning from an old suspended water skin, when he did not have a vessel.
Likewise, if the place is narrow and one cannot sit, let him drink while standing, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank from Zamzam while standing.
As for when there is ample space, let him drink while sitting.
Here is a matter: a person enters the mosque and there is water, and he is thirsty and wants to drink. Does he sit and drink, or do we say he should pray the greeting of the mosque first and then drink?
The second answer: we say he should pray the greeting of the mosque first and then drink; this is the best. If he fears that if he prays the greeting, people will crowd around the water and he will be delayed, then he should drink while standing, and there is no blame on him, because this is a necessity.
