The reader: In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) transmitted, in the context of the hadiths in the chapter on the virtue of the siwak and the characteristics of the fitrah:
“From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
The deeds connected to the Fitrah are five (or five things are connected to the Fitrah): circumcision, shaving the pubic hairs, clipping the nails, plucking the armpit hairs and trimming the mustache.
Sunan Ibn Majah 292Sahih (Darussalam)
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim.
And from Aisha (may Allah be pleased with her), she said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Ten are the acts according to fitra: clipping the moustache, letting the beard grow, using the tooth-stick, snuffing water in the nose, cutting the nails, washing the finger joints, plucking the hair under the armpits, shaving the pubes and cleaning one's private parts with water.
Sahih Muslim 261a
. The narrator said: “I forgot the tenth, unless it is rinsing the mouth.”
Waqi‘—who is one of its narrators—said: “Washing with water” means istinja’ (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself). Muslim narrated it.
And from Ibn ‘Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
Trim the mustache and let the beard grow.
Sunan an-Nasa'i 15Sahih (Darussalam)
It is agreed upon by al-Bukhari and Muslim”
.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) presented the hadiths regarding the characteristics of the fitrah in the chapter on the virtue of the siwak and the characteristics of the fitrah:
And the fitrah means that upon which creation was created to find it pleasing, and that it is from good. What is intended by this is the sound fitrah, because the deviated fitrahs are of no account, due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family):
Every child is born with a true faith of Islam (i.e. to worship none but Allah Alone) and his parents convert him to Judaism or Christianity or Magianism
Sahih al-Bukhari 1385
: And among them he mentioned:
The hadith of Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) said:
The fitrah consists of five things
And in another wording
Five things are of the fitrah
: So according to the first wording, the meaning is that the fitrah is these five things, and according to the second, the meaning is that these five are from the fitrah, and there are other things besides them from the fitrah. This wording is closer to reality, because among the five mentioned in the hadith of Abu Hurayrah, there is something of the fitrah other than them. So the closest is that the wording of the hadith is:
Five things are of the fitrah
. As for the first wording, which implies restriction, it may be intended to mean the complete fitrah, while the other is from the fitrah that is among the complements of the fitrah:
First: Circumcision, which is called by people purification. It is for men and women. As for men, their circumcision is obligatory; the circumcision of males is obligatory. As for women, their circumcision is a recommended practice (sunnah) and not obligatory.
This is because if a man is not circumcised and the skin above the glans remains, he retains urine with it, and it becomes a cause of impurity. Because if he retains urine with it and then pressure is applied, the urine that is between it and the glans comes out, so the clothes become soiled and impure. Also, in old age, when a person reaches the age of marriage, there is great difficulty during intercourse. Therefore, it is of the fitrah that this skin be cut. For this reason, many of the disbelievers today are circumcised, not for the sake of purity and cleanliness, because they are impure, but they are circumcised for the sake of pleasure during intercourse and to avoid difficulty. This is one point. When is circumcision performed? Circumcision is performed from the seventh day and after. The younger the child, the better, because the circumcision of a small child involves only physical pain, without emotional pain. As for an older person, if one circumcises someone who is, for example, ten years old, it involves both emotional and physical pain. Also, the growth of flesh, the development of flesh, and the speed of healing are greater in young children. For this reason, the scholars said: “Circumcision in childhood is better”, and that is the case.
Second: Shaving the pubic hair. Shaving the pubic hair means shaving the pubic area. The pubic area is the coarse hair that grows around the private parts, and it is one of the signs of puberty. It is of the fitrah for a person to shave this hair, because if it grows long, it may become soiled with impurity from below or from the private parts, and dirt and filth will result. And because it is harmful. Even if some people, like animals, leave the pubic hair and let it increase and grow long, may Allah keep us safe.
Third: Trimming the mustache, which is the hair growing above the lower lip. Only the lip; everything that goes around the upper lip—I said lower, and the correct is upper—everything that goes around the upper lip is the mustache. So this is trimmed.
