Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Reciter: (may Allah have mercy on him) “Chapter on the Prohibition of Boasting About Gifts and the Like
Allah the Exalted said:
O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders or injury
[Al-Baqarah 2:264]

And He said:
Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah and then do not follow up what they have spent with reminders [of it] or [other] injury
[Al-Baqarah 2:262]

From Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said
Three are the (persons) with whom Allah would neither speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor would look at them nor would absolve the and there is a painful chastisement for them. The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) repeated it three times. Abu Dharr remarked: They failed and they lost; who are these persons, Messenger of Allah? Upon this he (the Holy) Prophet) observed: They are: the dragger of lower garment, the recounter of obligation the seller of goods by false oath.
Sahih Muslim 106a
Reported by Muslim, and in a narration from him:
The one who lets his lower garment hang down.

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful.
The author (may Allah have mercy on him) said: “Chapter on the Prohibition of Boasting About Giving and Charity and the Like” This is because if a person gives to someone from among the people, if it is charity, he has given it for Allah the Mighty and Majestic, and if it is a kindness, kindness is required. If that is the case, it is not permissible for a person to boast about the gift, saying, “I gave you such and such, I gave you such and such,” whether he says it in their presence or in their absence, such as saying among people, “I gave so-and-so such and such, and I gave so-and-so such and such,” boasting about it to them. Then the author cited as evidence for this the saying of Allah the Exalted:
O you who have believed, do not invalidate your charities with reminders or injury
[Al-Baqarah 2:264]
This indicates that if a person boasts, the charity is invalidated and he has no reward in it, and it is one of the major sins. And Allah the Exalted said:
Those who spend their wealth in the way of Allah and then do not follow up what they have spent with reminders [of it] or [other] injury will have their reward with their Lord, and there will be no fear concerning them, nor will they grieve.
[Al-Baqarah 2:262]

Then he mentioned the hadith of Abu Dharr (may Allah be pleased with him) that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
It was narrated from Abu Dharr that the Prophet (ﷺ) said: "There are three to whom Allah will not speak on the Day of Resurrection nor will He look at them or purify them, and theirs will be a painful torment." I said: "Who are they, O Messenger of Allah? For they are indeed losers." He said: "The one who lets his garment hang beneath his ankles, the one who reminds another of what he has given him, and the one who sells his product by means of false oaths."
Sunan Ibn Majah 2208Sahih (Darussalam)

The one who lets his garment hang below the ankles means the one who drags his lower garment, or his shirt, or his outer garment out of arrogance and pride. This is the severe punishment for him: Allah will not speak to him on the Day of Resurrection, nor purify him, and he will have a painful punishment.
And the one who boasts is the one who boasts about what he gives; if he gives someone something, he boasts about it.
And the one who swears falsely to sell his goods means the one who swears a false oath about the goods in order to increase their value. This person is also among those whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor purify them, and they will have a painful punishment. And success is from Allah.
