Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may prayers and peace be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions:

"From Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him), who said: The Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
There are three (types of) people with whom Allah will neither speak on the Day of Resurrection nor purify them (from sins) and there will be a painful chastisement for them: A person who has spare water in a desert and he refuses to give it to the traveller; a person who sells a commodity to another person after the afternoon prayer and swears by Allah that he has bought it at such and such price, and the buyer pays him accordingly though in reality it was not true; and a person who pledges allegiance to an Imam (leader) just for some worldly benefit, and then if the Imam bestows on him (something out of that) he fulfills his allegiance, and if does not give him, he does not fulfill it.

And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), who said:
"Between the two Blowing of the Trumpet there will be an interval of forty." The people said, "O Abu Hurairah! Do you mean forty days?" He said, "I cannot say anything." They said, "Do you mean forty years?" He said, "I cannot say anything." They said, "Do you mean forty months?" He said, "I cannot say anything. The Prophet added: 'Everything of the human body will perish except the last coccyx bone (end part of the spinal cord), and from that bone Allah will reconstruct the whole body. Then Allah will send down water from the sky and people will grow like green vegetables'."

And from him (may Allah be pleased with him), who said:
Abu Hurairah (May Allah be pleased with him) reported: Once the Prophet (ﷺ) was speaking to us when, a bedouin came and asked him: "When will the Last Day be?" The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) continued his talk. Some of those present thought that he had heard him but disliked the interruption and the other said that he had not hear him. When the Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) concluded his speech he asked, "Where is the one who inquired about the Last Day?" The man replied: "Here I am." The Messenger of Allah (ﷺ) replied, "When the practice of honouring a trust is lost, expect the Last Day." He asked: "How could it be lost?" He replied, "When the government is entrusted to the undeserving people, then wait for the Last Day." [Al- Bukhari] .

The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
These hadiths were mentioned by the author (may Allah have mercy on him) at the end of his book *Riyad al-Salihin*, all of them from Abu Hurayrah (may Allah be pleased with him):
The first: The Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him and his family) informed:
That three [types of people] to whom Allah will not speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor look at them, nor purify them, and for whom there is a painful punishment.
: "Three" means three categories, and the intention is not three men, but they may be great nations characterized by these descriptions.
The first is a man who has surplus water in a desert and withholds it from a traveler.
: This means a person who has water from a farm or a well or otherwise in a desert land devoid of inhabitants, and people pass by him to drink from it, but he withholds it from them, may Allah protect us from that. This is one whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor look at him, nor purify him, and he will have a painful punishment. And what do you say about the state of a man whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor look at him, nor purify him, and who will have a painful punishment?!
And the second:
A man who sells a commodity to another man.
: This means he sold a commodity to a person, any commodity, a beast, a car, a watch, anything.
after 'Asr, swerving by Allah that he bought it for such and such a price
Sunan an-Nasa'i 4462Sahih (Darussalam)
: So the man bought it based on the belief that what the seller said was true, and he bought it for what he said, but it was not so. This one also will not be spoken to by Allah on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He look at him, nor purify him, and he will have a painful punishment. We ask Allah for safety.
And the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) mentioned the 'Asr time, because the best times of the day are after the 'Asr prayer. Otherwise, if a person swears about a commodity at any other time, he will not be spoken to by Allah, nor will He look at him, nor purify him, and he will have a painful punishment.
So in the hadith of Abu Dharr narrated by Muslim, the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Three [types of people] to whom Allah will not speak on the Day of Resurrection, nor look at them, nor purify them, and for whom there is a painful punishment. He said this three times. Then Abu Dharr said: Who are they, O Messenger of Allah? They have failed and lost. He said: The one who drags his garment.
: This means the one who lets his garment hang down, lowering it below the ankles until he drags it on the ground.
And the second:
The one who boasts of what he gives المنان
: The one who shows off to people when he gives them money or teaches them or does them a favor with something, he shows off to them, may Allah protect us from that.
And the third:
the one who sells his product by means of false oaths
Sunan an-Nasa'i 5333Sahih (Darussalam)
: This means the one who swears while lying to increase the price of the commodity. This indicates that the mention of the 'Asr time in the hadith of Abu Hurayrah is only for the severity of the punishment and the warning. Otherwise, everyone who swears about a commodity while lying in order to increase its price will not be spoken to by Allah on the Day of Resurrection, nor will He look at him, nor purify him, and he will have a painful punishment.
And the third in the hadith of Abu Hurayrah:
A man who pledges allegiance to a ruler solely for worldly gain; if he is given [what he wants], he keeps his pledge, and if he is not given it, he does not keep his pledge.
: This one is also among those whom Allah will not speak to on the Day of Resurrection, nor look at him, nor purify him, and he will have a painful punishment. This is because pledging allegiance to the ruler is obligatory. It is obligatory for every Muslim to have a ruler, whether he is a general ruler as was the case in the era of the Rightly Guided Caliphs and the Caliphs after them, or a ruler in his region as is the case now and since long ago, from the time of the four Imams and after them, and the Muslims are scattered, with a ruler in every direction, and every ruler is obeyed and followed by the consensus of the Muslims. No one among the Muslims has said that obedience is not obligatory unless the Caliph is one for all the lands of Islam, and no one can say that, because if this were said, there would be no ruler or emir left for the Muslims now, and all people would die a death of ignorance, because if a person dies and does not have a ruler, he dies a death of ignorance. He will be gathered with the people of ignorance, may Allah protect us from them, who were before the messengers. So the ruler is in every place and in every region according to its circumstance. For example, we here in Saudi Arabia, our rulers are the House of Saud. We have pledged allegiance to them, and we must obey them in other than disobedience to Allah (Mighty and Majestic). They are our rulers, and we declare loyalty to them to Allah the Exalted, and we believe that their pledge is upon our necks, and that they are our rulers. If a person dies without this belief in this land, he dies a death of ignorance because he died without a ruler.
And likewise, for example, in Egypt and in other lands, everyone has his ruler whom Allah has given authority over him. If we said: there is no ruler except the ruler who encompasses all the lands of Islam, there would be no rulers left for the Muslims today, and the death of all Muslims would be a death of ignorance, may Allah protect us from that.
So this man pledged allegiance to the ruler, but he pledged to him for the world, not for the religion, and not for obedience to the Lord of the Worlds. If he gives him from the wealth, he is faithful, and if he withholds it from him, he is not faithful. So this man is following his desire, not following guidance, nor obeying his Lord, may Allah protect us from that. Rather, he built his pledge on desire.
Someone might say, for example: We did not pledge allegiance to the ruler, not everyone has pledged. It is said: This is a Satanic, false doubt. Did the Companions (may Allah be pleased with them), when they pledged allegiance to Abu Bakr (may Allah be pleased with him), did every single person pledge? Even the old woman in her house and the seller in his market? No, the pledge is for the people of authority and decision. So when they pledged, the authority was established over everyone in this land, whether they willed it or not.
And I do not think anyone among the Muslims, or even among the people of intellect, says: It is necessary that every person pledge, even if he is in the hole of his house, even if he is an old woman or an old man or a small child. No one has ever said this. Even those who claim democracy in Western countries and others do not do this, and they are liars. Even their elections are all based on fraud and lying, and they do not care at all except for their own desires only.
The Islamic religion, when the people of authority and decision agree to pledge allegiance to the ruler, he is the ruler whether people like it or not. Knowledge and command are all for the people of authority and decision. If the matter were given to the general public, even to the small and the old, the old women and the old men, and even to those who have no opinion and need to be placed under guardianship, if this were said, there would be no ruler left for the people, because people must differ and it is not possible for them to agree.
If it is given to the people of authority and decision and they agree on a person to be their emir, he is their emir, the one who is obeyed, whom a person must not die without having a pledge to him on his neck. If he does not do so, he dies a death of ignorance, may Allah protect us from that.
The important point is that these are three things; if they occur in a person, Allah will not speak to him, nor look at him on the Day of Resurrection, nor purify him, and he will have a painful punishment.
And in this hadith is evidence for the establishment of the speech of Allah (Mighty and Majestic), and that Allah the Exalted speaks, as is the doctrine of the people of the Sunnah and the community: that Allah the Exalted is described with speech, He speaks (Exalted and Majestic is He) as He wills, with what He wills, and when He wills. No one restrains Him, and nothing is impossible for Him (Exalted and Majestic is He):
His command is only when He intends a thing that He says to it, "Be," and it is.
[Ya-Sin 36:82]
,
But Allah is not to be caused failure by anything in the heavens or on the earth. Indeed, He is ever Knowing and Competent.
[Fatir 35:44]
. So His saying:
Whom Allah will not speak to
: is evidence that He speaks to others, and He does so. And in it is also that Allah looks with two looks:
The first look: the general one, for nothing is hidden from His sight (Exalted and Majestic is He), He sees everything.
And the second: the specific one, which is the look of mercy, and it is the one negated in this hadith: that Allah does not look at them with a look of mercy.
And in it is also evidence that Allah is the one who purifies the servants, as Allah the Exalted said:
but Allah purifies whom He wills
[An-Nur 24:21]
: So the one who purifies matters, the one who purifies people, and the one who purifies deeds is the Lord of the Worlds (Mighty and Majestic). We ask Allah the Exalted to make us and you among those whom their Lord has purified, for He is capable of all things.
