The Shaykh : And as for the hadith of 'Aishah (may Allah be pleased with her), which is the fourth hadith in our lesson today: it is that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) informed [us]:
Fever is from the heat of the Hell, so cool it with water. أن الحمى من فيح جهنم قال : فأبردوها بالماء
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2074Sahih (Darussalam)
: The fever: it is the illness that strikes a person with heat in his body. This is from the heat of Hell, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said. As for how the heat of Hell reaches the human body, that is a matter left to Allah, and we do not know it; we do not know. But we say, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Fever is from the heat of the Hell, so cool it with water. إن الحمى من فيح جهنم ، أبردوها بالماء
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 2074Sahih (Darussalam)
: meaning, pour water on the patient to cool him. This is among the causes of healing for one who is afflicted with fever. Modern medicine has testified to this, so among the treatments for fever, they order—meaning, the doctors order—the patient to bathe in water. The colder it is, provided there is no harm in it, the better it is. And by that, the fever is removed by the permission of Allah. And success is from Allah.
