The Shaykh : In the name of Allah, the Most Gracious, the Most Merciful:
We have previously mentioned, in the hadiths indicating the virtue of seeking forgiveness, that Allah the Exalted said:
O son of Adam! Were your sins to reach the clouds of the sky, then you sought forgiveness from Me, I would forgive you يا ابن آدم لو بلغت ذنوبك عنان السماء ثم استغفرتني إلا غفرت لك
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3540Hasan (Darussalam)
. And
the clouds of the sky عنان السماء
: meaning its highest point, meaning that if a person had sins reaching the highest point of the sky, and then he sought the forgiveness of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He), He would forgive him, because Allah the Exalted said:
And whoever does a wrong or wrongs himself but then seeks forgiveness of Allah will find Allah Forgiving and Merciful. ومن يعمل سوءاً أو يظلم نفسه ثم يستغفر الله يجد الله غفوراً رحيماً
[An-Nisa 4:110]
: whatever sin you commit, O human being, and then you seek the forgiveness of Allah, Allah the Exalted will forgive you.
