about when the evils of the self occur

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
The Shaykh : Yes

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : Yes, because the evil of the self is through worry, intention, and bad deeds in action. When the bad deeds occur, they have a bad reaction.
Corruption has appeared throughout the land and sea by [reason of] what the hands of people have earned ظهر الفساد في البر والبحر بما كسبت أيدي الناس
[Ar-Rum 30:41]
And whatever strikes you of disaster - it is for what your hands have earned وما أصابكم من مصيبة فبما كسبت أيديكم
[Ash-Shuraa 42:30]
But the evils of the self occur through worry.

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : How?

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : All of this ...
Indeed, the soul is a persistent enjoiner of evil إن النفس لأمارة بالسوء
[Yusuf 12:53]
and this ... is evil, yes, Salim?

The questioner : ...

The Shaykh : I seek refuge in Allah. This has become evil in two ways: from commanding what is false and from consuming wealth by false means.

The questioner : Yes, I do.

The Shaykh : This is correct. Students of knowledge should clarify this to the people. I recall that once, while we were in Jeddah calling the pilgrims to Islam and guiding them, it spread among the people that the government, may Allah guide them, had forbidden travel to Madinah because of the proximity of the Hajj season. That is, they closed travel to Madinah because, I think, if it was the fourth day of Dhul-Hijjah, they closed travel so that people would not miss the Hajj. An elderly man, about fifty to sixty years old, began to cry greatly. Why? He said, "We missed the lights." What are the lights? He said, "Visiting Madinah." We said to him, "My brother, this is easier than missing the Hajj, it is easier." He said, "No, the lights, the lights," and he repeated it. So I understood from this that most of his intention was to visit the grave of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him). And this is a real problem, meaning many of the common people prefer visiting the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) to Hajj and consider it the greatest blessing?
