The ruling on overlooking children's violations of their religious matters

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I have a sister in her fifties, and she has a son whom she loves so much that she often overlooks his violations of his religion and matters related to morals. She says: This is the case with many mothers and some fathers. I ask for guidance in this matter, if you would be so kind, and may Allah reward you with good.
A: It is obligatory for the Muslim to fear Allah in himself, in his family, in his neighbors, and in all his affairs and with all Muslims; and that is by calling them to Allah, enjoining good and forbidding evil, and not letting anyone deter him from the sake of Allah. This is the obligation of every Muslim, so he should not leave enjoining good and forbidding evil for the sake of kinship with a relative or love for a person. Rather, his love for his relative and his true maintenance of family ties, for which he is rewarded, is that he enjoins good upon him and forbids him from evil, as the Mighty and Majestic said:
And when you testify, be just, even if [it concerns] a near relative.وَإِذَا قُلْتُمْ فَاعْدِلُوا وَلَوْ كَانَ ذَا قُرْبَى
[Surat al-An'am: 152].
So it is obligatory for every believer, male and female, to fear Allah and to fulfill the right that is upon him with the near and the far. The Exalted says:
O you who have believed, be persistently standing firm in justice, witnesses for Allah, even if it be against yourselves or parents and relativesيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا كُونُوا قَوَّامِينَ بِالْقِسْطِ شُهَدَاءَ لِلَّهِ وَلَوْ عَلَى أَنْفُسِكُمْ أَوِ الْوَالِدَيْنِ وَالْأَقْرَبِينَ
[An-Nisa 4:135]
the verse [Surat al-Nisa: 135], and the Exalted says:
O you who have believed, protect yourselves and your families from a Fire whose fuel is people and stonesيَا أَيُّهَا الَّذِينَ آمَنُوا قُوا أَنْفُسَكُمْ وَأَهْلِيكُمْ نَارًا وَقُودُهَا النَّاسُ وَالْحِجَارَةُ
[Surat al-Tahrim: 6].
So it is obligatory for the believer, male and female, that each of them advises his or her relative and others, and that he or she forbids evil, and enjoins good with relatives and others. Indeed, among the most important matters is that one advises his or her relative and guides him or her to good, and this is greater than maintaining ties through wealth, if one maintains ties through wealth. One is rewarded for maintaining family ties, but maintaining ties by guiding to good, teaching good, enjoining good, and forbidding evil is more important than maintaining ties through wealth, because guiding to good benefits him or her in this world and the Hereafter. So it is not permissible for your sister or anyone else to leave enjoining good and forbidding evil out of love for her son, or her brother, or her sister, or others. Rather, she must enjoin good and forbid evil by the methods she sees as useful and effective, and by good means, so that, if Allah wills, she succeeds in her work and her conscience is clear.
