The circumcision of girls

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Your Eminence, Shaykh 'Abd al-'Aziz ibn Baz, the Grand Mufti of the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (may Allah preserve him), some Islamic countries practice female circumcision, believing that it is an obligation or a recommended practice.
The magazine "Al-Majallah" is preparing a journalistic article on this topic, and given the importance of knowing the Shari'ah's opinion on this matter, we ask Your Eminence to shed light on the legal ruling regarding it.
We thank and appreciate Your Eminence for this contribution, and we wish Your Eminence abundant health and correctness.
Please accept from us our sincere greetings.
The Editor-in-Chief, acting in his capacity

A: And upon you be peace, and the mercy of Allah and His blessings. As for what follows:
Female circumcision is a recommended practice, like male circumcision, if there is a doctor or female doctor who is skilled in doing it; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Five practices are characteristics of the Fitra: circumcision, shaving the pubic hair, cutting the moustaches short, clipping the nails, and depilating the hair of the armpits.الفطرة خمس: الختان، والاستحداد، وقص الشارب، وتقليم الأظفار، ونتف الآباط
Sahih al-Bukhari 5891
It is agreed upon that it is authentic.
