The first question of fatwa number ( 8378 )
Q 1: Is it permissible to circumcise a child before seven days from his birth, especially since in some hospitals they perform the circumcision before the seven days, and a person told me: that it is forbidden before the seven days and disliked after them?
A 1: Praise be to Allah alone, and blessings and peace be upon His Messenger, his family, and his Companions.. And after: Circumcising the child is a recommended practice (sunnah), and it is not forbidden to advance it before the seventh day, nor is it disliked, and it is not forbidden to delay it beyond that, nor is it disliked, and the matter is broad in that. With regard to considering the child's benefit; due to the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Five things are of the fitrah (innate natural disposition): circumcision, pubic shaving, trimming the moustache, cutting the nails, and plucking the armpit hairخمس من الفطرة: الختان، والاستحداد، وقص الشارب، وقلم الأظفار، ونتف الآباط
Agreed upon as authentic. And success is from Allah, and may Allah send blessings and peace upon our Prophet Muhammad, his family, and his Companions.
