Cursing is a major sin

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: We see, to a great extent, the spread of cursing for the most trivial reasons among many people, such as cursing a specific person, and cursing parents and relatives. We ask Your Eminence to clarify the danger of this to the Muslim's religion?
A. S. - Riyadh

A: Cursing a Muslim without right is among the major sins and among the apparent transgressions. And if the cursing is directed at parents, the sin becomes greater and more serious, as it is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
Cursing a believer is like killing himلعن المؤمن كقتله
It is agreed upon as authentic. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
The cursers will not be witnesses or intercessors on the Day of Resurrectionإن اللعانين لا يكونون شهداء ولا شفعاء يوم القيامة
Sahih Ibn Hibban 47:195
Narrated by Muslim in his Sahih. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said:
Abusing a Muslim is an outrage and fighting against him is unbeliefسباب المسلم فسوق وقتاله كفر
Sahih Muslim 64a
It is agreed upon. And he (peace and blessings be upon him) said to his Companions:
Should I not inform you about the gravest of the major sinsألا أنبئكم بأكبر الكبائر
Sahih Muslim 88b
They said: Yes, O Messenger of Allah. So he said:
The major sins are associating others with Allah, disobeying the parents" or he said, "the false oathالإشراك بالله وعقوق الوالدين وقول الزور
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 3021Sahih (Darussalam)
Or he said:
And bearing false witnessوشهادة الزور
It is agreed upon as authentic.
There is no doubt that cursing parents is among the ugliest forms of undutifulness to parents. So it is obligatory for Muslims in general, and for children in particular with their parents, to be cautious of this crime and to purify their tongues from it, out of fear of the anger and punishment of Allah, and out of concern for the preservation of affection and brotherhood between the Muslim and his brothers, and between the child and his parents.
We ask Allah to guide the Muslims to all good.
