Ruling on Killing the Insects Found in the House

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: The insects found in the house, such as ants, cockroaches, and the like, is it permissible to kill them with water or by burning? And if it is not permissible, what should we do?

Answer: These insects, if they cause harm, are to be killed, but not with fire, rather with types of pesticides; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Five of the animals are all pests that are killed in the state of safety and in the state of consecration: the crow, the kite, the rat, the scorpion, and the biting dog.خمس من الدواب كلهن فواسق يقتلن في الحل والحرم: الغراب والحدأة والفأرة والعقرب والكلب العقور
And in another authentic hadith, the snake is mentioned.
This authentic hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) indicates the permissibility of killing these mentioned things and what is similar to them among the harmful creatures, such as ants, cockroaches, mosquitoes, flies, and wild beasts, in order to repel their harm. However, if the ants do not cause harm, they are not to be killed, because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) forbade killing the ant, the bee, the hoopoe, and the dung beetle, and that is if none of them causes harm. But if harm comes from them, they are included with the five mentioned in the hadith. And Allah is the One who grants success.
