The ruling on using Zamzam water for istinja' (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Is it permissible to use Zamzam water for istinja' (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself)?

A: Zamzam water has been indicated by authentic hadiths to be a noble and blessed water. It is established in Sahih Muslim that the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) said regarding Zamzam:
It is blessed (water) and it also serves as foodإنها مباركة؛ إنها طعام طعم
Sahih Muslim 2473a
, and in a narration in Abu Dawud with a good chain, it was added:
and a cure for sicknessوشفاء سقم
. This authentic hadith indicates the virtue of Zamzam water, that it is food that satisfies, a cure for sickness, and that it is blessed. The Sunnah is to drink from it, as the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) drank from it. It is permissible to perform wudu' (ablution) with it and to use it for istinja' (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself), as well as to perform ghusl (the full ritual bath) for janabah (major ritual impurity) if there is a need for it.
It is established that he (peace and blessings be upon him) caused water to gush forth from between his fingers, and then people took what they needed from this water to drink, to perform wudu' (ablution), to wash their clothes, and to perform istinja' (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself). All of this occurred. If Zamzam water is not like the water that gushed forth from between the fingers of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), it is not above that; rather, both are noble water. If it is permissible to perform wudu' (ablution), ghusl (the full ritual bath), istinja' (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself), and washing clothes with the water that gushed forth from between his fingers (peace and blessings be upon him), then it is likewise permissible with Zamzam water.
In any case, it is pure, good water, and it is recommended to drink from it. There is no blame in performing wudu' (ablution) with it, no blame in washing clothes with it, and no blame in using it for istinja' (cleaning oneself after relieving oneself) if there is a need for it, as mentioned earlier. It is narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
The water of Zamzam is for whatever it is drunk for.ماء زمزم لما شرب له
Sunan Ibn Majah 3062Hasan (Darussalam)
, and there is weakness in its chain, but the authentic hadith mentioned earlier corroborates it, and praise be to Allah.
