The questioner : The first letter in this session came from the listener from al-Hufr, Saleh Muhammad Saleh. He says in his letter: If a pilgrim has only water from Zamzam with him and the time for prayer arrives, should he perform wudu with it or perform tayammum, considering that Zamzam water is blessed and is taken for drinking only.
The Shaykh : Praise be to Allah, Lord of the worlds, and may peace and blessings be upon our Prophet Muhammad, and upon his family and all his Companions. Zamzam water, as the brother said, is blessed. It was reported in the hadith from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that Zamzam water is for what it is drunk for. However, we say that among its blessings is also that a servant may purify himself with it to perform the prayer.
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : Therefore, performing wudu with it is permissible and there is no harm, because it is water, and it falls under the general meaning of the statement of Allah the Exalted:[Al-Ma'idah 5:6] until He said: [An-Nisa 4:43].
The questioner : Yes.
The Shaykh : Therefore, it is obligatory for him to use this water, i.e., Zamzam water, for his purification, and it is not permissible for him to resort to tayammum as long as this water is available.

يا أيها الذين ءامنوا إذا قمتم إلى الصلاة فاغسلوا وجوهكم وأيديكم إلى المرافقAnd if you are ill or on a journey or one of you comes from the place of relieving himself or you have contacted women and find no water, then seek clean earth
وإن كنتم مرضى أو على سفر أو جاء أحد منكم من الغائط أو لامستم النساء فلم تجدوا ماء فتيمموا صعيدا طيباThe questioner : Yes.
