Supplication for Entering the Place of Relief

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A sister, A.A., from Madinah al-Munawwarah, says in her question: When she enters the bathroom, she recites the reported supplication:
Allahumma inni a'uthu bika min al-khubuthi wal-khaba'ith (O Allah, I seek refuge with You from male and female devils)اللهم إني أعوذ بك من الخبث والخبائث
Sunan an-Nasa'i 19Sahih (Darussalam)
My question is about the word
Corruptionالخبث
: is it pronounced with a sukun on the ba or with a dammah? Or is the matter broad in this regard? We ask for your guidance, may Allah reward you with good. What is the meaning of this supplication? Is it said outside the bathroom or inside it? If one forgets to say it outside the bathroom, does he say it inside? Is it necessary to say it aloud inside the bathroom? What does one say when he leaves it? Is the supplication for merely entering the bathroom, or when a person intends to relieve himself?
A: It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that when he intended to enter the place of relief, he would say:
A'udhu Billahi minal-khubthi wa'l-khaba'ith (I seek refuge with Allah from male and female devils)أعوذ بالله من الخبث والخبائث
Sunan Ibn Majah 298Sahih (Darussalam)
The word al-khabith is pronounced with both a dammah and a sukun on the ba, and the matter is broad in this regard. The intended meaning is seeking refuge from evil and vile actions. Some scholars interpreted it as referring to the male and female jinn. If he was in the desert, he would say this seeking of refuge when intending to relieve himself. This seeking of refuge is said before entering the place of relief, not after it.
It is prescribed for him, after leaving the place of relieving himself, to say:
Forgiveness is Yoursغفرانك
Likewise, when he has finished relieving himself, if he is in the desert from urination or defecation, it is recommended for him to say:
Forgiveness is Yoursغفرانك
.
The wisdom in this, and Allah knows best, is that Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) has bestowed upon him the blessing of making food and drink easy for him, and then He has bestowed upon him the removal of the harm. The servant is prone to falling short in gratitude, so it is prescribed for him, when the harm is removed after the blessing of food and drink has been present, to seek forgiveness from Allah. He (Glorified and Exalted is He) loves it from His servants that they thank Him for His blessings and seek His forgiveness for their sins, as He (Glorified and Exalted is He) said:
So remember Me; I will remember you. And be grateful to Me and do not deny Me.فَاذْكُرُونِي أَذْكُرْكُمْ وَاشْكُرُوا لِي وَلا تَكْفُرُونِ
[al-Baqarah: 152].
