Our brother also asks Your Eminence, the Shaykh, about currency that has certain phrases or certain verses of the Qur'an on it. For example, he says: There is currency on which it is written: "There is no god but Allah, alone, without partner. Muhammad is the Messenger of Allah. He sent him with guidance and the religion of truth to make it prevail over all religion." Is there sin on the one who enters the restrooms with it? Please inform us, may Allah reward you with good? And would you be kind enough to write a letter on this topic, Your Eminence, if you see that there is something forbidden in it?
Answer: There is no blame on the one who enters the place of relieving himself with this currency or with letters that contain something of the remembrance of Allah; there is no blame on him. This is because it is difficult and involves much hardship, and guarding against it is difficult, so there is no blame in that. However, if it is easy for him to place it in a place outside the place of relief and he does not fear anything—he does not fear forgetting it and does not fear that it will be stolen—then that is better. But if he fears forgetting it or that it will be stolen, then there is no blame on him in that. It was reported in a hadith of Anas (may Allah be pleased with him) :, and the scholars disagreed on the authenticity of this hadith. Some of them criticized it, saying that it is defective and that there is no blame in entering the place of relief with something containing the remembrance of Allah, especially when there is a need.
Some of them authenticated it and said: It is recommended for the believer to guard against that, and it is disliked for him to enter the place of relief with something containing the remembrance of Allah. But when there is a need, the dislike is removed. If there is a need because he fears he will forget it, or fears that the wind will take it, or that children will play with it or someone will take it, then there is no blame in entering with it; because hardship brings about ease, and Allah is the One to be sought for help. Yes.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good. Regarding the letter on this research, if you would permit?
The Shaykh: It does not have great importance; because it is a known matter among the people of knowledge, a known matter in the books of the scholars. Yes.
The presenter: And the ruling in it is dislike, as you have mentioned?
The Shaykh: When there is no need. But if he needs to enter with it fearing its loss, then there is no blame on him and no dislike.
The presenter: May Allah reward you with good.
The Shaykh: Yes.
