Drowsiness: Does it invalidate the ablution?

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A woman says: When I pray the Duha prayer and wait for the Zuhr prayer, drowsiness overcomes me. Does my ablution become invalid because of it, or not?

A: Drowsiness does not invalidate the ablution; rather, it is invalidated by sleep in which one does not retain awareness of those around him. The Companions (may Allah be pleased with them) used to wait for the Isha prayer in the time of the Messenger of Allah (peace and blessings be upon him), and their heads would nod from drowsiness, then they would pray without renewing their ablution. As for heavy sleep in which awareness is lost, that invalidates the ablution. You, my sister in Allah, should understand the difference between heavy sleep—which involves the loss of awareness—and drowsiness.
