The ritual bath on Friday is a confirmed recommended practice

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Is the Friday bath obligatory or recommended?

A: The ritual bath on Friday is a confirmed recommended practice; this is based on the authentic hadiths reported from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him), including his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
The taking of a bath on Friday is compulsory for every male Muslim who has attained the age of puberty and (also) the cleaning of his teeth with Siwak, and the using of perfumeغسل يوم الجمعة واجب على كل محتلم، وأن يستاك ويتطيب
Sahih al-Bukhari 880
and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Whoever takes a bath, then comes to al-Jumu'ah prayer, then prays what was fixed for him, then keeps silent till the Imam finishes the Khutbah (religious talk - sermon), and then prays along with him - his sins (committed) between that time and the next Friday will be forgiven, with an addition of three days more.من اغتسل ثم أتى الجمعة فصلى ما قدر له ثم أنصت حتى يفرغ الإمام من خطبته ثم يصلي معه غفر له ما بينه وبين الجمعة الأخرى وفضل ثلاثة أيام
Bulugh al-Maram 2:382
narrated by Muslim in his Sahih, and in one of his wordings:
He who performed ablution well, then came to Friday prayer, listened (to the sermon), kept silence all (his sins) between that time and the next Friday would be forgiven with three days extra, and he who touched pebbles caused an interruption.من توضأ فأحسن الوضوء ثم أتى الجمعة فاستمع وأنصت غفر له ما بينه وبين الجمعة الأخرى وزيادة ثلاثة أيام، ومن مس الحصا فقد لغا
Sahih Muslim 857b
along with many other hadiths on this topic.
And his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
is obligatory for everyone who has reached the age of pubertyواجب على كل محتلم
Sunan an-Nasa'i 1371Sahih (Darussalam)
The meaning of this, according to most scholars, is "strongly emphasized," just as the Arabs say: "The number of days is a debt, and your right upon me is obligatory." This meaning is indicated by the fact that he (peace and blessings be upon him) was content with ablution in some of the hadiths.
Likewise, using perfume, using the siwak, wearing the best of clothes, and going early to the Friday prayer, all of these are recommended practices that are encouraged, and none of them is obligatory.
