The ruling on pointing with the index finger when the mu'adhdhin says (There is no god but Allah)

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I have noticed that when the prayer is established and the mu'adhdhin reaches the last words of the adhan and iqamah, which are: (There is no god but Allah), I see some of the worshippers clench the fingers of their right hand and raise the index finger. Likewise, during the Friday sermon and the circles of knowledge, if the imam or the khatib repeats the word "There is no god but Allah." Has anything been reported regarding this?

A: I do not know of anything in this, and I do not recall that anything was reported from him (peace and blessings be upon him) regarding this. Rather, pointing with the index finger was reported in the two tashahhuds, for he (peace and blessings be upon him) used to raise his index finger in them as a sign of tawhid (the oneness of Allah).
As for after finishing the dhikr of the adhan or iqamah, I do not recall anything in this, except that he (peace and blessings be upon him) prescribed for people to respond to the mu'adhdhin and the one who gives the iqamah, and to say after the adhan and iqamah, and after the salawat upon the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
O Allah, the Lord of this complete call and of this prayer, which is going to be established! Give Muhammad Al-Wasila and Al-Fadila and raise him to Al-Maqam-al-Mahmud which You have promised himاللهم رب هذه الدعوة التامة، والصلاة القائمة، آت محمدًا الوسيلة والفضيلة، وابعثه مقامًا محمودًا الذي وعدته
Sahih al-Bukhari 4719
Al-Bukhari narrated it in his Sahih. It is also established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
If one after performing ablution completely recites the following supplication: (Ash-hadu an la ilaha ill-Allahu wahdahu la sharika lahu, wa ash hadu anna Muhammadan ‘abduhu wa Rasuluhu) ‘I testify that there is no one worthy of worship but Allah, He is Alone and has no partner and Muhammad (ﷺ) is his slave and Messenger’, all the eight gates of Paradise will be opened for him and he may enter through any gate he wishesما منكم من أحد يتوضأ فيسبغ الوضوء ثم يقول: أشهد أن لا إله إلا الله وحده لا شريك له، وأشهد أن محمدًا عبده رسوله، إلا فتحت له أبواب الجنة الثمانية يدخل من أيها شاء
Bulugh al-Maram 57
Muslim narrated it in his Sahih. Al-Tirmidhi added with a sound chain:
O Allah! Make me among the repentant, and make me among those who purify themselves.اللهم اجعلني من التوابين واجعلني من المتطهرين
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 55Da'if (Darussalam)
It is prescribed for the Muslim to say that, and likewise the Muslim woman; due to the aforementioned hadiths.
