Ruling on sitting with those who mock the preservation of prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: I see that many young people, when they see a young man who is careful to maintain his prayer and his religion, mock him. I also see some young people—may Allah guide them—speaking about religion with mockery and indifference. What is the ruling on this? And is it permissible to sit with them and joke with them at times that are not prayer times?
A: Mocking Islam or any part of it is major shirk (associating partners with Allah). Allah the Exalted said: [Surah al-Tawbah: 65-66]. Whoever mocks the people of religion and those who are careful to maintain their prayers because of their religion and their maintenance of it is considered to be mocking the religion. Therefore, it is not permissible to sit with him or be his companion. Rather, it is obligatory to disapprove of him and warn against him and his companionship. Likewise, whoever engages in matters of religion with sarcasm and mockery is considered a disbeliever. It is not permissible to be his companion or sit with him. Rather, it is obligatory to disapprove of him, warn against him, and urge him to sincere repentance. If he repents, praise be to Allah. Otherwise, it is obligatory to report him to the authorities after establishing his evil deeds with righteous witnesses, so that the ruling of Allah is executed against him by the Shari'ah courts.
In any case, these are serious matters. Every student of knowledge and every Muslim who knows his religion must be wary of them, and must warn against those who engage in matters of religion with sarcasm and play, lest they be afflicted with what afflicted those who came before them in terms of corruption of creed and mockery of the truth and its people.
We ask Allah for all Muslims to be safe from everything that contradicts His Shari'ah. We also ask Him, Glorified and Exalted is He, to keep all Muslims safe from the evil of their enemies, the disbelievers and the hypocrites, and to help them to adhere to His Book and the Sunnah of His Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) in all circumstances. Indeed, He is Generous and Bountiful.

(65) And if you ask them, they will surely say, "We were only conversing and playing." Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?" (66) Make no excuse; you have disbelieved after your belief. If We pardon one faction of you - We will punish another faction because they were criminals.
In any case, these are serious matters.
