The Ruling on One Who Curses Allah or His Messenger, or Diminishes Either of Them

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question: What is the ruling on one who curses Allah or curses His Messenger, or diminishes either of them? And what is the ruling on one who denies something that Allah has made obligatory, or deems permissible something that Allah has forbidden? Please elaborate on the answer regarding this, as these evils are frequently committed by many people.

Answer: Anyone who curses Allah, the Exalted, in any manner of cursing, or curses the Messenger Muhammad (peace and blessings be upon him), or any of the other messengers in any manner of cursing, or curses Islam, or diminishes or mocks Allah or His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him), is a disbeliever who has apostatized from Islam, if he claims to be a Muslim, by the consensus of the Muslims. This is based on the saying of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) :
Say, "Is it Allah and His verses and His Messenger that you were mocking?"قُلْ أَبِاللَّهِ وَآيَاتِهِ وَرَسُولِهِ كُنْتُمْ تَسْتَهْزِئُونَ ۝
[At-Tawbah 9:65]
Do not make excuses; you have disbelieved after you believed [Surah al-Tawbah: 65-66].
The distinguished Imam Abu al-Abbas Ibn Taymiyyah (may Allah have mercy on him) elaborated on the evidence in this issue in his book: The Drawn Sword Against the One Who Curses the Messenger. Whoever wishes to review much of the evidence on this matter should consult this book, for its great benefit, the eminence of its author, and the breadth of his knowledge of the scriptural evidence (may Allah have mercy on him).
The same ruling applies to one who denies something that Allah has made obligatory, or deems permissible something that Allah has forbidden, among the matters known from the religion by necessity. This includes one who denies the obligation of prayer, the obligation of zakah, the obligation of fasting in Ramadan, or the obligation of Hajj for one who is able to undertake the journey to it, or denies the obligation of dutifulness to parents, or the like. Similarly, it applies to one who deems permissible drinking intoxicants, undutifulness to parents, or deeming permissible the wealth and blood of people without right, or deeming permissible riba (usury or interest), or the like of the forbidden matters known from the religion by necessity and by the consensus of the Salaf of the Ummah. Such a person is a disbeliever who has apostatized from Islam, if he claims to be a Muslim, by the consensus of the scholars.
The scholars (may Allah have mercy on them) have elaborated on these issues and other nullifiers of Islam in the chapter on the ruling of the apostate, and clarified their evidence. Whoever wishes to review this should consult this chapter in the books of the scholars of the Hanbali, Shafi'i, Maliki, Hanafi schools, and others, to find what is sufficient and adequate, if Allah wills.
It is not permissible for anyone to be excused on the grounds of ignorance in this matter; because these matters are among the issues known among the Muslims, and their ruling is clear in the Book of Allah (Glorified and Exalted is He) and the Sunnah of His Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him).
And Allah is the guarantor of success, and may Allah send prayers and blessings upon our Prophet Muhammad and his family.
