Ruling on placing the abaya on the shoulder during prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: The sister who used the code name Umm Allah from Abha says in her question: What is the ruling on placing the abaya on the shoulder during prayer? Knowing that there are no men in the same place.
A: It is not permissible for a woman to place the abaya on her shoulders; because of the imitating of men in that, and it is established from the Messenger (peace and blessings be upon him):Sahih al-Bukhari 5885.
But it is obligatory for her to cover her body in prayer by other than this manner.
As for the face: the Sunnah for the woman is to uncover it in prayer like the man, if there is no non-mahram man with her.
As for the two hands, the best is to cover them; due to the generality of the evidence.
May Allah guide them all.
