The prayer of a man who is deaf and mute and does not know the conditions of prayer
Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: A man who is deaf and mute prays but does not know the conditions of prayer. Is his prayer valid?
A: He prays according to his capacity. Allah the Exalted said: [al-Taghabun: 16]. And if it is possible to teach him by sign language or by any other means, that should be done. But if it is not possible, he is only obligated to do what he has learned. And Allah, Glorified and Exalted is He, says: [al-Isra: 15].
If teaching by writing is possible because he is sighted and can read, then it is obligatory to teach him by writing. This is because teaching the ignorant is a necessary duty for Muslims and for students of knowledge. He should be taught by whatever method is possible: by sign language or by writing, so that the responsibility is lifted and so that he knows his religion.
