The Manner of Prostration of Recitation and the Purity Required for It

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Is ritual purity required for the prostration of recitation? And does one say takbir when lowering and raising oneself, whether in prayer or outside of it? And what is said in this prostration? And is the supplication reported in it authentic? And is taslim prescribed in this prostration if it is outside of prayer?
A: Ritual purity is not required for the prostration of recitation according to the more correct of the two opinions of the scholars, and there is no taslim in it, nor takbir when raising oneself from it, according to the more correct of the two opinions of the people of knowledge.
And takbir is prescribed when prostrating; because it has been established from the hadith of Ibn 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with them both) what indicates that.
As for when the prostration of recitation is in prayer: then it is obligatory to say takbir when lowering and raising oneself; because the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) used to do that in prayer in every lowering and raising, and it is authentic from him (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
offer your prayers in the way you saw me offering my prayersصلُّوا كما رأيتموني أصلي
Sahih al-Bukhari 6008
Al-Bukhari narrated it in his "Sahih".
And what is prescribed in the prostration of recitation from dhikr and supplication is what is prescribed in the prostration of prayer; due to the generality of the hadiths, and among that is:
O Allah, it is to Thee that I prostrate myself and it is in Thee that I affirm my faith, and I submit to Thee. My face is submitted before One Who created it, and shaped it, and opened his faculties of hearing and seeing.
Sahih Muslim 771a
Muslim narrated that in his "Sahih" from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he used to say this dhikr in the prostration of prayer from the hadith of Ali (may Allah be pleased with him).
And it was mentioned earlier that what is prescribed in the prostration of recitation is what is prescribed in the prostration of prayer, and it was narrated from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he supplicated in the prostration of recitation by saying:
O God, record a reward for me for it, remit from me a load for it, make it a treasure with Thee for me, and accept it from me as Thou didst accept it from Thy servant Davidاللهم اكتب لي بها عندك أجرًا، وامحُ عني بها وزرًا، واجعلها لي عندك ذخرًا، وتقبَّلها مني كما تقبَّلتها من عبدك داود عليه السلام
Mishkat al-Masabih 1036
.
And what is obligatory in that is to say: Subhan Rabbi al-A'la, as is obligatory in the prostration of prayer, and whatever is added to that from dhikr and supplication is recommended.
And the prostration of recitation in prayer and outside of it is a recommended practice and not obligatory; because it has been established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) from the hadith of Zayd ibn Thabit what indicates that, and it has been established from 'Umar (may Allah be pleased with him) what indicates that as well. And Allah is the guarantor of success.
