Voluntary Prayer in Pairs

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Question:
I began the regular voluntary prayer (Sunnah Rawatib) before the midday prayer (Zuhr), intending to pray four units (rak'ahs) with a single closing salam. After I had completed one unit, the call to prayer (Iqamah) was made. Should I change my intention and pray it as two units, or should I stop? Please advise us, may Allah reward you with good.

Answer:
It is established from the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him) that he said:
When the Iqamah has been called for the Salat then there is no Salat except the obligatory.إذا أُقيمت الصلاة فلا صلاة إلا المكتوبة
Jami` at-Tirmidhi 421Sahih (Darussalam)
, reported by Muslim in his Sahih. Therefore, what is prescribed for you, if the call to prayer is made while you are in a voluntary prayer, is to stop it, based on this noble hadith.
It is also prescribed for the Muslim to pray voluntary prayers in pairs, at night and by day; based on the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
The night prayer is (to be offered) two by two.صلاة الليل مثنى مثنى
Sunan Ibn Majah 1319Sahih (Darussalam)
, agreed upon as authentic. And in a correct narration:
Prayer by night and day should consist of pairs of rak'ahs.صلاة الليل والنهار مثنى مثنى
Sunan Abi Dawud 1295Sahih (Al-Albani)
, reported by Imam Ahmad and the people of the Sunan with a sound chain of narration.
However, if the call to prayer is made while he is in the final bowing of the voluntary prayer or in the final prostration, it is better to complete it; because less than one unit remains of it, and the minimum of prayer is one unit. And success is from Allah.
