Aligning the rows in prayer

Machine translationRead the Arabic original
Q: Some people in prayer do not care at all about aligning the rows. You see one of them move forward or backward, and there is a visible gap between him and the person next to him. What is the ruling on the action of these people? Does that invalidate the prayer? And what is the obligation of the imam regarding this?

A: It is obligatory for the worshippers to establish the rows and close the gaps by standing close together and placing foot against foot, without causing harm to one another. It is obligatory for the imam to remind them of this and order them to establish the rows and stand tightly packed in them, in accordance with the saying of the Prophet (peace and blessings be upon him):
Establish the rows and close the gapsأقيموا الصفوف وسدوا الفرج
and his saying (peace and blessings be upon him):
Make your rows straight, for straightening the rows is part of completing the prayer.سووا صفوفكم فإن تسوية الصفوف من تمام الصلاة
Sunan Ibn Majah 993Sahih (Darussalam)
And every Muslim should pay attention to those around him so that they all cooperate to establish the row and close the gaps. And success is from Allah.
